I was navigating those raw first days of breastfeeding, with cracked and painful skin, and I needed something 100% natural — with the fewest ingredients possible — that was safe for both me and my newborn.
My mum — my biggest support through that whole season — went looking for an answer. That’s when we discovered tallow. We found a jar at our local markets, and within days my skin had healed. I started using it on everything: baby massages, nappy rash, my own face. I’ve always had oily skin, and tallow turned out to be the only moisturiser that didn’t feel heavy.
A few months in, I tried making my own. Grass-fed tallow from the local organic butcher, a bottle of jojoba oil, and a few of mum’s essential oils — whipped together on my kitchen bench. Friends tried it, asked for jars. That’s when Byron Pure Tallow began.

Our tallow is rendered over 6–8 hours using a natural deodorising process that removes any unwanted odour. What remains is a clean, neutral base that lets our essential oil blends do the talking — subtle, grounding, and nothing like you might expect.
Tallow is rich in vitamins A, D, E and K — the same nutrients your skin uses to repair and renew itself. Because its fat composition closely mirrors your skin's natural sebum, it absorbs deeply rather than sitting on the surface. The result is genuine hydration, not just the appearance of it.
Yes. Tallow's biocompatibility means it works with your skin rather than against it — hydrating without clogging, nourishing without overwhelming. We recommend a small patch test first if your skin is particularly reactive, as with any new product.
